About

I am Jose Ayerdis, a Nicaraguan software engineer working across backend systems, applied AI, mobile, data, and the occasional hardware-adjacent problem.

Most of my work sits at the intersection of practical product engineering and machine learning. I like building systems that people can actually use: Rails backends, Android apps, data pipelines, LLM workflows, experiments, integrations, and tools that reduce a bit of operational chaos.

I am currently building Pozool Stays, a property management SaaS for short-term rentals. It gives me a place to explore multi-tenant software, Rails, PostgreSQL, automation, AI agents, and the very real messiness of running software against real business workflows.

Before that, I worked at Automattic on machine learning, experimentation, and mobile products, including Tumblr and WordPress.com related work. Earlier in my career I worked on Android and backend systems at PayPal and StubHub, and I built Pozool, a point-of-sale app for small businesses.

I hold a Master’s in Computer Science from the University at Buffalo with an emphasis in machine learning, and a BS in Computer Systems Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería. I am also a Fulbright Scholar and a YLAI Professional Fellow.

This blog is where I write about software, AI, side projects, learning in public, and whatever else survives long enough in my head to become a post.
